    Welcome to the spring 2012 edition of Deep Heaven Now! Continuuing the bi/semi-annual tradition of the original Deep Heaven festivals of the 90s in Boston! Featuring the very best of the local and national Ambient/Experimental/Psychedelic/Shoegaze/Whatever scene.

    The 5th edition of Deep Heaven Now is a 2 day event starting Friday, May 4th through May 5th! ONE $10 admission fee gets you access to BOTH venues for that day. Precinct set times start on the 12 and PA’s set times start on the 6. So there’ll be plenty of time to check out almost all the bands if you want to. $10/day.

    Highlights from Night 1 include east coast psych/shoegaze veterans from DC Screen Vinyl Image performing the first of 2 different sets that weekend as well as psych rockers Lead Stones from NYC. Also not to be missed are new locals Sun Sister who’ll be the best thing you’ve heard since Black Tamborine. Anchoring the night are the soon to be famous The New Highway Hymnal as well as Deep Heaven Now staples Ghost Box Orchestra.

    Highlights from Night 2 start with the Vandelles who’ll be releasing a cd that night. The east coast/midwest shoegaze psych brigade of female fronted bands this time inlcude Thrushes (Baltimore), Nights (Cleveland), Is/Is (MN featuring Sarah Neinaber of Gospel Gossip), locals Night Fruit and Velah (featuring 2 former members of Static of the Gods). Newcomers Bundles of Joy and This Scarlett Mourning start off Night 2 and are not to be missed as well!

    This event is sponsored by Narragansett beer and WZBC 90.3 Flyweight.

No slackers here; we’ve had our fingers on the soundboard working diligently on our next record. Preliminary mixes are just about done and sounding massive. We’ve been working with our favorite engineer, Chris McLaughlin at 1867 Recording Studios again, and as we’ve said before, it’s gonna be a headphone album.

This Friday, April 13th, we’ll be back at the Somerville venue, Radio, with our powerhouse friends, The Suicide Dolls. The last couple of practices have been epic and loud. We’re psyched to get back into it after our hiatus. Event details here.

The following week, we have a bunch of dates with our buddies on K Records, The Curious Mystery. They’ve been on the road since the beginning of March! These west coasters are not to be missed. Here are the dates:

The first week of 2012 in review: already been sick, decided against making any resolutions, began plotting gbo’s next tour, and had the honor of being named one of the best new bands in Boston for 2012 by the Boston Phoenix (our hometown’s arts, music, and entertainment newspaper). The article alludes to some of our plans for the year (as I just did in the previous sentence) but I’d like to highlight that we’ll have a new album out by the time our northeast corner of the U.S. starts to warm up. You can download a pre-release of the song “Vanished” before the album comes out via the Class of 2012 bandcamp comp.

Attn NY’ers: we’ll see you at the Cake Shop on Saturday night.
