vote early. vote often.

We are humbled that the Boston Phoenix has nominated us in the category of Best Psych/Experimental Act in this year’s Best Music Poll. If you’ve got a second, we’d really appreciate it if you click our name and cast your ballot. You’re the best.

Show #75: Friday the 13th

After about 3 months without playing show, we’re excited to get back into it. No slackers here; we’ve had our fingers on the soundboard working diligently on our next record. Preliminary mixes are just about done and sounding massive. We’ve been working with our favorite engineer, Chris McLaughlin at 1867 Recording Studios again, and as we’ve said before, it’s gonna be a headphone album.

This Friday, April 13th, we’ll be back at the Somerville venue, Radio, with our powerhouse friends, The Suicide Dolls. The last couple of practices have been epic and loud. We’re psyched to get back into it after our hiatus. Event details here.

The following week, we have a bunch of dates with our buddies on K Records, The Curious Mystery. They’ve been on the road since the beginning of March! These west coasters are not to be missed. Here are the dates:
Wednesday, 4/18 at The Basement, Northampton, MA – also playing with Magic Magic
Thursday, 4/19 at Whitehaus, Jamaica Plain, MA
Saturday, 4/21 at TBA, Providence, RI – also playing with Mind Yeti

SEE YOU IRL.

twenty twelve

The first week of 2012 in review: already been sick, decided against making any resolutions, began plotting gbo’s next tour, and had the honor of being named one of the best new bands in Boston for 2012 by the Boston Phoenix (our hometown’s arts, music, and entertainment newspaper). The article alludes to some of our plans for the year (as I just did in the previous sentence) but I’d like to highlight that we’ll have a new album out by the time our northeast corner of the U.S. starts to warm up. You can download a pre-release of the song “Vanished” before the album comes out via the Class of 2012 bandcamp comp.

Attn NY’ers: we’ll see you at the Cake Shop on Saturday night.

more action sports awesomeness.

Look what we found! A point-of-view video of some mountain bike action featuring our song, The Lodge. It can be pretty hypnotizing if you let it. Watch for some over-the-bars action at the two minute mark.

You may have seen the skate vid we posted recently. Is this a trend? There must be be more of these floating around out there on the internet. If you find any let us know. Specifically, I’m hoping we’re the soundtrack to a backflip tailwhip—my favorite bike stunt ever.

Skate video!

So we were googling ourselves—no, not like that—and happened upon this cool skate video featuring our tune Sunrising in the back half of the vid. Pretty cool.

YOU GOT DEM PURPLE TAPES?

Great news! We are making our sold-out, tour-only tape available again! It contains all new songs and jams! The first batch quickly sold out on tour, so we have created another short run of purple tapes available for sale on Bandcamp and as a free download. Go check it out!

In addition, it’s been a year since the release of our debut record, The Only Light On, and what a year it’s been! What better time than now to announce that we are going back into the studio to start work on Record #2!

Over the last year, we’ve played with a ton of great bands, gone on tour, met amazing people and been continuously inspired and energized by the whole experience. We are excited about the new batch of songs and can’t wait to share them with you.

We appreciate all the love and support we’ve gotten from you guys. Thank you! Now go grab yourselves some new tunes!

karaoke!

Karaoke is actually pretty much a blast, but it’s so much better when you’re singing songs you love. Personally, I can only stomach so much out of key GaGa and Journey before I’m ready to throw the mic into the teleprompter, or, since I’m actually a pretty mild mannered man, simply leave the bar.

These folks from Austin, TX do it right, though. Even the Village Voice thinks so. They’ve got all the punk and indie songs kids like us grew up on. Channel your inner Henry Rollins without getting in a fight before, during or after. Show everyone you can sing as well as Stephen Malkmus without the benefit of a voice coach. Pretend your Mac and dedicate a song to your own personal Laura even though none of those songs were really about her. And, thanks to Narragansett Beer, you can even drink till you can’t remember the words, just like the real Paul Westerberg.

So, come on out to Karaoke Underground on May 12th at TT the Bears.

Party starts at 8:00 PM, we play at 9:30. We get our sing-a-long on around 10:45.
