About Ghost Box Orchestra
Founded in 2008, Ghost Box Orchestra have been at the forefront of establishing Boston’s psychedelic rock scene. The band’s sound infuses psychedelic western soundtracks with desert rock and reverb. Cathedral keyboards and fuzzed-out guitars levitate above pounding, tribal poly-rhythms while vocals echo in the dense sonic landscapes.
In 2011, the band was invited by the Black Angels to play the main stage at Austin Psych Fest. In 2012, they won Best Psych/Experimental act in the Boston Phoenix’s Best Music Poll, and their music was featured in the self-guided tour audio for Dale Chihuly’s Through the Looking Glass exhibit at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. They were a mainstay at the Deep Heaven Now festivals, having headlined the ambient/shoegaze/psych fest several times. Since 2013, the band has been a part of the Fuzzstival; Boston’s celebration of all things fuzz.
Ghost Box Orchestra has shared the stage with The Cult, Dead Meadow, Psychic Ills, SPECTRUM, Asteroid #4, Spindrift, Wooden Shjips, the Growlers, Disappears, Moon Duo, MMOSS, Prince Rama and The Fresh & Onlys to name a few.
Their debut album, The Only Light On, was released in July of 2010. A year later, they followed up with a cassette-only release of basement and improvised recordings called “Spring Tour Tape 2011”. Vanished, the band’s second full length album, was released in May of 2013. In October 2015, they released the EP Sound of (Eternal Now). GBO released, High Plaine, the band’s 3rd full-length studio album, in May of 2016.
